GAIA - Practical Assessments 2017

2017 GAIC and APGAI casting assessments held at Tymawr Farm, Gilwern, Abergavenny, South Wales.  Steve Dowling and Gary Poole were both sitting their practical assessments for a single handed GAIC along with a host of other associate members and full members looking to add to their certificates.   Kelly King filmed the day and interviewed members to find out what GAIA really means to its members.

Fly Casting technique - Substance and Style

Tony King is one of four GAIA instructors who will demonstrate the basic skill of" pick up and lay down". The purpose of this set of videos is to help understand and identify the differences between substance and style. Each instructor achieves the objective using the same substance but each exhibit subtle differences in style.  On this page you can study all four videos which are delivered in realtime, half speed and quarter speed.

GAIA - Open Events

In late Oct 2016 GAIA held an event called "GAIA on the Dee".  Llangollen Maelor Angling Club gave use of their beat at Broken bridge for what turned out to be a fantasic day. 

Demonstrations where given including

  • Welsh Dee kick sampling 
  • Phil Ratcliffe and Pat Stevens gave pratical demonstrations on French, Czech and tight line Nymphing techniques.
  • Louis Noble gave a master class on wet fly and spider fishing techniques.
  • Wendy Gibson & Bob Lomax demonstrated Fly tying and discussed various techniques in the Bryan Howel hotel. 

The public are always invited and warmly welcomed at our events and everyone who attended had a lot of fun.  Harry Johnson made this film of the day for us and really managed to capture the spirt of the Game Angling Instructors' Assossiation.
